This and that: Clouds and Blue Skies

Clouds and Blue Skies

We have been most fortunate these last couple of weeks as we have had lots of sun.  This isn't normal for us as it is usually overcast and snowing.  We have gotten lots of snow but for the last couple of weeks it has been down to just a small skiff per day... During the winter the sky even seems bluer then during the summer, I am not sure why that is.  Is it because of the blue against the white of the snow it seems more brilliant?  Or is it just because we don't see it that often that we are amazed by the colour?  It doesn't matter ~ the sky is blue and it is wonderful.

The sun always shines above the clouds.

Nature is a mutable cloud which is always and never the same
 Ralph Waldo Emerson

Every cloud has a silver lining.
Proverb

A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed.  It feels an impulsion.. this is the place to go now.  But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons.
Richard Bach

  1. There's nothing like blue skies and fluffy clouds on a sunny day to give one a big happy.

  2. I've just popped over from Sunlit Sunday. It's so lovely to see your blue skies. Our clouds have been racing across the sky so quickly so it is lovely to see them stop and the sun come out, even for a brief moment! Have a wonderful weekend. xx

  4. I like the idea of the sun shining above the clouds, and even though the weather is grey, the promise of the suns return is palpable.

  5. I know what you mean about the blue skies seeming brighter in the wintertime, Marlys. Whatever the reason, it's nice to have that colour in a primarily white landscape. After looking at your cloud-appreciate photos, I have Joni Mitchell's song playing in my head:

Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
    And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

    Have a lovely Sunday.

  8. Such a lovely set of images. Blue skies in the winter do seem a deeper blue - is it because all the precipitation washes away some of the pollution? I don't know, but I'll enjoy the colour.

  12. I know blue skies in winter do seem brighter. I'm guessing it's because we just don't see them that much so we appreciate them more when we do. No blue skies here today though.
