Starbucks Verismo 580 Review

I have to say that I was so excited when I received the email asking if I would like to review the Starbucks Verismo 580  from Staples.  I have always wanted an  machine that I can make my own espressos and lattes.  With the espresso pods and milk pods I can now make my own.

We don't have a Starbucks close to us, the closest one is over 100 miles away, so having this Verismo 580 at home I can make some of my favorite drinks right at home.  The day that I received it and when hubby got home, the first thing we did was take it out, rinse the machine and brewed up our first cup of coffee and the results were...

I have always wanted to make designs in my coffee and now I can with the frothy coffee  made by the Verismo 580.

Absolutely fantastic... Hubby loves the Starbucks espresso pods and felt that the coffee was just like the coffee he drank in Africa.  He makes his coffee by using 2-3 shots of espresso with 2 -3 tablespoons of condensed milk.  I use one shot of espresso and then 1 regular coffee with milk or almond milk and 1 tbsp condensed milk.  It is also good with a splash of chocolate creamer.  Don't tell anyone but I do use the pods two or three times and they still taste great, just a little bit less strong with each use.  I haven't had time to make anything with the espresso, but I have some ideas in mind, so keep watching..

With the Verismo machine we also received 12 espresso pods and in the box of the machine was a sample pack with Espresso, House Blend and Teavana Chai Pods.  The Chai was out of this world.  I am a big fan of chai and the 5 pods were gone with a few days.  We have ordered more Espresso and Chai pods for more great coffee and tea.

The best thing about this machine is how fast you can get coffee.  Place your pod in, turn on the machine, wait few seconds, push the button and you have wonderful smelling coffee in seconds... Another positive feature of this brewer is that the old pod drops down into a container that can collect up to 10 pods before you have to throw them away, just watch as it also collect some water in the container too, so you need to get rid of the water before you throw the pods in the garbage.  The cup holder is adjustable so that you can use a small cup for your espressos and a larger cup if you are making regular coffee.  The last great plus of this machine is the easy clean up as it has a rinse function by pressing the espresso button with the handle up to let water rinse through the machine.. Perfect.

Now, with everything there are some negatives.   When we made our first cup of coffee, the first thing we noticed was the noise of this machine.  It has a loud noise as it is making the coffee but as the coffee comes quickly, it doesn't last long.  The other feature that is not as good, is that the water tank is at the back of the machine.  As most people will have the back of the machine against the back of their cupboard, you do have to pull it out to place more water in the tank.  I also find it cumbersome to put back in place.  Although none of these negatives will stop us from using this wonderful brewer.

A cup of Cafe Au Lait made with Starbucks Espresso Pod and the Verismo 580
and Beignets make a perfect breakfast or afternoon coffee treat.
We can pretend that we are in New Orleans instead of snow country.
I do have to thank Evelyn from My Turn for Us as it was through my comment on her review and giveaway that Jessica from Staples contacted me about doing this review.  Thanks Evelyn.  I also would like to thank Jessica and Staples for allowing me to review this wonderful machine.

Disclaimer:  I received the Verismo 580 and Espresso Pods to review.  All opinions are 100% mine.

  1. I think my sister would love this, since she is a big Starbucks fan. I need to show this to her. Based on your review the positive aspects outweigh the negative aspects (noise and water tank on back).
    Thanks for sharing with us.

  3. Since we moved 3 months ago, the only place to get a good cup of coffee is at home. There are NO coffee places here :(
My husband is a BIG coffee drinker but the closest place to us is 45 minutes away. NOT something we drive to get. AND his favorite coffee machine was broken in the move.
He would love one of these. Noise would not matter. And as always your cup looks fabulous!

    1. I understand that Dawn, and I am not sure what we would do without a coffee pot. We love this machine and the noise isn't so bad now.. although hubby is worried he will wake me when he makes his morning coffee.
