Red Iced Tea

If you have been following me on any of my social media you know that I love, love teas.  Just about any kind of tea... cold, hot or in between.

I found this recipe in Homemade Summer by Yvette Van Boven and I love it.. Just perfect to drink on those warm afternoons.  This drink has a plethora of flavours from the bergamot in the Earl Grey Tea to the sweet/sour taste of the grapefruit.
When I was looking at the recipe at first I wondered about the Earl Grey Tea and thought that it would be better just to use plain black tea then tea laced with bergamot and lavender, but these flavoured danced with the grapefruit and strawberries and was a great complement to flavours.

Red Iced Tea/ This and That #icedtea #EarlGreyTea #summerdrink

Recipe from Homemade Summer
Ingredients:
Juice of one red grapefruit ( I got about 1/2 cup of juice)
1 cup cranberry juice (I used Ocean Spray Light Cranberry Juice)
6 large strawberries
2 cups brewed Earl Grey Tea, chilled
up to 3 tbsp honey (I used one)
Ice (I didn't use)

Directions:
Boil 2 cups of water and infuse 1 -2 Earl Grey Tea (I used two) for 4-5 minutes and let chill.
Juice grapefruit and add to blender
Add all the rest of the ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
Strain Tea into pitcher with added ice.

Cooks notes: I didn't use ice in my tea, but did make it and let it sit in the fridge overnight before drinking it.  I found that letting it sit the flavours blended and none of the flavours were over powering.  When I tried a sip as soon as I made it I found that all I could taste was the bergamot and lavender of the tea.  I found that when you blended the tea, there was a lot of froth at the top.  I scooped the froth and placed it on the top of my glass.  As the drink chilled and sat in the fridge the froth dissipated.  If you let the drink sit in the fridge overnight without straining and then put it back into the blender and blend again before straining and serving, you will get the froth again.
Also the strained strawberries tasted wonderfully, especially when I let them sit in the fridge with the tea before straining..
A perfect refreshing drink!

  1. I am not a big fan of Earl Grey tea, but this does sound really good with the grapefruit and strawberries. I'll have to give it a try.

    1. I think this would taste good with any kind of black tea if you don't like Earl Grey... I plan on checking it with other types and see what happens.
