Home Made Summer Cookbook Review

I have joined a group of great bloggers and each month we will be reviewing cookbooks for you.  This month we are reviewing Home Made Summer by Yvette Van Boven.
This cookbook is made of recipes that are easy to make and that don't take a lot of time to prepare with summer ingredients that you have.
Make sure you head down to the bottom of the post to enter the rafflecopter.  We all teamed up to give you a chance to win this cookbook.  Also make sure you check out all the other's bloggers review of this wonderful cookbook.

The first recipe that I made was Red Ice Tea and it was absolutely awesome. I am a big fan of tea and this drink has it all...A wonderful array of flavours that tantalizes your tongue  ~ the tangy taste of the grapefruit with the sweetness of the strawberries, with the tastes of lavender and bergamot.

The second recipe I made was a shake.. Lime, Avocado and Cucumber Shake.  I loved the colour of this shake and the if you like lime you will love this drink.  I found the lime to be very over powering but and the next time I make it I think I will decrease the amount of lime in it.  I loved the that this shake has lots of goodness in it.. Avocados and Cucumbers.

Ingredients:
1/2 avocado peeled
1/3 cucumber chopped
Juice and lime zest of 1 lime
3-4 ice cubes
salt and pepper to taste (I didn't use)
Directions:
Place all ingredients into a blender (I used my Osler) and blend until smooth.

I also made a dressing.  I love making my own dressing and this one was very tasty.  Ginger-Lime Dressing was a great recipe and has lots of flavour.  Once again the lime was over powering but as it marinated in the fridge, the lime flavour decreased.  I used it on my sandwiches and on my salads.

Ingredients:
4 limes juiced, grate 1 zest of lime
2 tbsp finely grated ginger
1 clove ginger (minced)
1 tbsp honey
1 small shallot minced
Salt and Pepper
Directions:
In small sauce pan, combine all ingredients except salt and pepper.  Bring to boil on med-high heat.  Let boil down slightly and set aside to cool.  Add salt and pepper to dressing once cooled.

The sandwich that I made it was a Stuffed Pita.  I used more shallot, mini pepper, cucumber, sliced ham, and romaine lettuce made with fresh homemade pita.

I also made a Quinoa Blueberry Salad that I used the Ginger- Lime Ginger on and it tasted awesome.  I will have the recipe for this salad soon.

I did make a fourth recipe called Honeycomb Candy.  I was so excited to see this recipe in the cookbook but when I made it, it didn't turn out.  I still want to remake it as the recipe was awesome, it just didn't set properly and I ate it with a spoon.

  1. Great job Marlys. I did the dressing as well and I am a big lime lover but wasn't fond of the dressing.
