Goat Burger

Goat meat is widely consumed in most countries except America.  I wonder why is that?  Is there a reason that you don't eat goat meat?  I do know that for myself I probably would never eat goat if it wasn't for my husband.

Goat meat is good for you, it is healthier for you then beef, or chicken as it has lower calories, cholesterol and fat.  As it is lower in fat it is best to cook over low heat to maintain the tenderness and juiciness of the meat.

Our favorite way to eat goat meat is to make Goat Soup which then we eat with Fufu.  The hardest thing we have for making any kind of goat meat is to where to buy it.  Many African Markets sell the meat but we don't have anything close.  We can at times buy it frozen that has been shipped from Australia but the meat is much better when it is fresh.  Well we are in luck now, we have found a place in Sioux Falls SD (where my husband is working) that has goat meat and they butcher it right when you need it.  The place is called Bob's Custom Meats.

He was given some ground meat the first time that he went and I decided to make some burgers with it.  These burgers were the best I have ever tasted and my hubby said he likes them much better then beef burgers.  They were so flavourful that you didn't need anything else but the burger.

Goat Burger

Ingredients:
1 lb ground goat meat
1/4 cup bread crumbs (I just had leftover dried French Bread that I crumbled)
1/3 cup minced onions
1/2 tsp ground anise
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp kale (can substitute black pepper or grains of paradise)
1/4 tsp seasoning salt
1 egg
BBQ sauce of choice (optional)

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in bowl except BBQ sauce until well mixed.  Divide into 4 equal parts. Make patties with each part (each patty will be about 1/4 pound).
Place under broiler until cooked to desired wellness 5-6 minutes per side.
If desired you can put some BBQ sauce on your burgers before placing under broiler.
Enjoy on a bun with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes.

*These could also be grilled.

  1. Very interesting about Goat meat. My great uncle used to have goats and chickens and we used to drink goat's milk when I was growing up. I'm not sure if he ever gave us goat meat though. Thanks so much for sharing your post. Pinned/shared.

  2. It's the funniest thing I was just talking to somebody about why we don't eat goat meat. Nobody seemed to have any idea. Very interesting. What is the difference from beef? It looks delicious. :)

  3. Interesting! Like others, I have just never heard of eating goat meat, so never considered it. Goats milk and cheese are so common, why not try the meat?
