Heart Cup Cozies

I have been into making cup cozies this winter.  This one is perfect for February's   Heart Health Month or even for Valentine's Day.. If you know how to knit and purl it is easy to make and only takes about an hour or two depending on how fast you knit.

I had seen cup cozy like this one floating around on facebook and pinterest and looking at the picture I was able to come up with mine.  Now I am the first to say I really don't know how to write up a pattern but I will try and I hope that you can understand it.  I usually use Sugar and Cream Yarn or Red Heart.

Heart Cup Cozy

For this project I used Sugar N' Cream  Yarn, red and size 6.5 knitting needles, felt for hearts and embroidery thread.  Depending on your cup will depend on how wide and long the cozy will be.

This one is for a moderate size cup...
Cast on 50 stitches
Row 1 -4 Knit each row (garter stitch)
Row 5-15 alternate between one row knit, one row purl (stockinette stitch)
Row 16-20 Knit each row (garter stitch)

You may need to increase your stockinette stitch depending on how long your cup is. The first row should measure to the top of your handle and the last row to the bottom of your handle.
.
When complete turn your cozy inside out and fold in half. Sew across the first row (across from the folded end) for 3 stitches and also the last row for 3 stitches.  Your handle will go in the middle of the sewn part.

Cut 3 hearts out of felt and sew them on the front of the cozy equal distances apart.

Here is another variation of this cozy that I did for the Daily Dish Magazine. It was made for a slightly bigger cup.  As yarn will stretch, it is better to have the cozy a bit snug then too big.

These cup cozies could be heading out to some great friend from Facebook that were part of last years Creative Pay it Forward.. Yes, I am a little late but late is better then never, right?  Continue to watch my blog as I plan on doing this again..  I will have the details here soon.

  4. These are so cute! I love crocheting but got totally stuck when I tried to learn how to knit. However, I love that this project looks like a manageable knitting one that I can one day figure out :)
